On the 5th & 6th of August 2006 the Apple Growers held their first mixed event entering a team in the Bath Hockey Festival. The squad comprised 10 girls and 10 guys spanning 9 academic year groups of Old Brutonians. Jessie Robertson (currently 5th year at Kings) also made a guest appearance by virtue of which she became the first current Brutonian to become a Grower.

The squad recorded 2 wins, 2 defeats and a draw from five games, a very good effort given that many of our opponents play together on a regular basis. Highlights included Kevin Pike’s no nonsense approach to tackling (even the girls), some cracking saves from Soph S-T in goal and Sophie Glenday’s efforts as top scorer for the team.

In the evening, dressed as French Maids and Morris Dancers, the Growers enjoyed a few ciders before taking the dance floor by storm. A good time was certainly had by all. Thanks to Giles Sedgman for all his organising behind the scenes and to Charlie Campbell for hunting down such authentic looking Morris Dancing gear!
